  • Abstract:
    Dermester ater De Geer is recorded for the first time from the state of Yucatan, Mexico. Within the field of Forensic Entomology, it is a species of relevance for its usefulness in the estimation of the postmortem interval (PMI). Adult specimens of this species were collected from mummified and dried remains of pig heads (Sus scrofa domestica Linnaeus, 1758) used as necrotraps placed in a semi-urban area. Photographs of D. ater, an identification key and illustrations for the 4 species of Dermestes present in the state are included.
