Over the course of several years, we investigated the fauna of beetles in the vicinity of the village of Bučany in southwestern Slovakia. Using the Malaise traps, we accumulated a copious amount of study material, including 401 species of beetles. At the site “garden”, the beetle fauna was dominated by the species Trechus austriacus. At the site “forest”, the dominant species were Ceutorhynchus pallidactylus and multiple species of the genus Lignydes. This research demonstrated high diversity of beetles at the sites classified as “free land”, the first (lowermost) degree of nature protection defined by the Slovak legislature.
