A checklist of obligate xylobiont beetles occurring in the Netherlands is presented. The
list includes 757 species and a summary of their biotic properties and status on various
international indicator lists. Also included in this paper is a list of xylobiont beetle species,
which were first discovered in the Netherlands after the 1980s, the decennium in which
dead wood management changed considerably in the Netherlands. A database called
Xylobionta is currently under development at the European Invertebrate Survey (EIS) - The
Netherlands. The structure of the database is described. Xylobionta will contain biotic
data on all Dutch xylobiont invertebrate species, and their status on several international
indicator lists. Biological trait categories included are biotope, forest type, host trees, ants
and fungi, microhabitat, dead wood age, flower visiting of adults, stadium in dead wood
and food. Statuses from the European habitat directive, the Urwald relict species, Primeval
forest relict beetles, Speight’s list of saproxylic insect species, the European Red Lists of
saproxylic beetles, the Index of Ecological Continuity (IEC) and Saproxylic Quality Index
(SQI) are also incorporated.
Trinodes hirtus (Dermestidae: Trinodinae) was found in an old forrest.
