  • Abstract:
    Dermestes tristis, ranging from central California into Baja California Norte, Mexico, is determined to be a geographical variant and subspecies (New Status) of D. rattus occurring from northern California to British Columbia and east to Wyoming. These two forms are distinguished from five closely related species including the European D. sardous. The latter species is apparently established in southern California.
